Some common lasik surgery problems
Lasik surgery has given some exceedingly good results in the treatment of vision problems. However, there are some related risks and complications too.
Some people realize that they have after all not achieved the promised vision correction after having undergone lasik surgery. Some other patients have suffered lasik surgery problems for many days after the surgery and faced double vision problems for about 2 weeks after that. This made it difficult for them to use their computers for several weeks. Another common lasik surgery problem is dry eye condition, which requires eye drops or other medicines for rectification.
A case of lasik surgery problem that lasted a few troubling months is that of a 42-year woman. She had conventional lasik surgery done in June 2004, opting for mono vision. However, she found it disorienting so in September of the same year she opted for wavefront lasik enhancement and the following day her vision was 20/20. Then lasik surgery problems began appearing in the 1st week following surgery, which put a lot of strain on her eyes and she had difficulty seeing things close to her as well as in focussing her eyes.
The lasik doctor informed her that she was + hyperoptic and all the problems were a normal part of healing which would resolve themselves soon. However, the lasik surgery problems put unbearable pressure on her eyes keeping her awake at night. The good thing was that in about 3 weeks her near vision returned and the strain on her eyes eased. It took several weeks for the lasik surgery problem to go away and now she has 20/20 vision even though it took 5 painful months to get to it.
Some other common lasik surgery problems are dizziness and initial blurred vision. However, under normal circumstances correct vision should return the same day or the morning after surgery. Often there is some discomfort immediately after lasik surgery, which feels like having something in the eye. It is important to avoid rubbing the eyes until the flap has healed itself. Adhering to post operative restrictions and care like avoiding eye make up for two weeks, no swimming or hot baths up to 2 months and keeping away from playing sports for one month will go a long way in ensuring proper healing after lasik surgery.
