Tattoo Care and its Importance
Summary :Though there is no doubt that in today’s modern world, a tattoo is considered a cool thing however; getting a tattoo on your body involves addressing several crucial issues related to it. After you have gone through the entire gamut of the tattooing process like making up your mind, consulting a doctor about your suitability to the process, selecting a tattoo design and artist and of course, bearing the pain, you will have to ensure that all of it is not in vain.
Tattoo care is what we are talking about. For maintenance of a tattoo, care is absolutely vital. If you are unaware or negligent in this respect, within no time you will find that your hard got tattoo has begun to fade and its beauty ruined. There are certain important precautions that have to be followed after the tattooing process has been completed.
Make it a point to listen carefully to the instructions given by the tattoo artist at the tattoo studio. He is the most qualified person to advise you on tattoo care. Also, do not hesitate to ask any questions that you may have in mind with regard to tattoo care.
Bandaging is a critical component of tattoo care. It is literally the physical barrier between microbes and the raw wounds on your skin. The air contains a host of microorganisms that are just waiting to get a soft target to invade. So keep the bandage on as instructed by the tattoo artist, which could be hours. Removing the bandage too early could lead to serious infections as the wound would not have got sufficient time to heal properly. So, even if you find it awkward or are dying to take a look at your tattoo, keep the bandage on.
Washing the tattoo is an important part of tattoo care. For this you need to use lukewarm water and a gentle antimicrobial soap. Gently wash with your hands and pat the area dry. Remember not to use anything that can be abrasive to the tender skin. As long as the tattooed skin area feels rough which could be up to a week’s time, you should follow this cleaning routine twice or thrice a day. Remember to keep the tattoo moist at all times to prevent any loss of pigment.
You will need to apply an ointment on the tattoo, which will either have been provided in the tattoo care kit or recommended by the tattoo artist. Your tattoo artist will advise you on the period of time that the ointment has to be used for.
Tattoo care mandates that while taking bath, take care not to keep the tattooed area under water too long as it could aggravate the wound. In this context, bathing in ponds and lakes should also be avoided as they are potential sources of infections.
Another aspect of tattoo care is to be wary of the sun. The sun is a powerful agent that can cause the colours of the tattoo to fade fast. So keep the tattoo covered but of course if you would like to flaunt it, ensure to wear a sun block of SPF 30.
Adhering to these tattoo care instructions will ensure that you do not face health problems after getting a tattoo and enjoy your tattoo for long times to come.
